San Diego’s Hockey History / Return of the Gulls

After a hiatus of nearly 10 years – Professional hockey returned to San Diego with the arrival of the American Hockey League, the top development league of the NHL. The Anaheim Ducks relocated their AHL franchise from Norfork, Virginia to America’s Finest City and just 90 minutes up the road after last season. So far, the newest edition of the San Diego Gulls has been embraced by  fans with an average attendance of 8,559 (2nd in the AHL) – Hockey is nothing new to San Diegans and the city has had a rich hockey tradition including 5 WCHL Taylor Cups championships from 1995-2003.
